Welcome to Weird Wednesdays, hosted by It’s OK to be WEIRD!
First off, it’s really weird that I’m old enough to have a daughter in middle-school. Granted, they start younger here (grade 6) than where I grew up (it wasn’t until grade 7). But still…. my daughter is 11 and moved up to middle school this year. WOW! WEIRD!
Last year it was weird enough having kiddos in 2 different schools – 2 in French Immersion, 1 at Fine Arts. They are all so different, and our middle son really is wired SO differently. He’s an artist at heart, through and through. Having art integrated into all of his education has been fantastic for him. But his school was on a different schedule and calendar, just a bit different, than the other school, where I had 2 students. That was crazy enough.
Now that my daughter has moved up, I have 3 kiddos at 3 different schools. They all leave and get home at different times, have slightly different school calendars, and different expectations about parent involvement.
This juggling act has been working pretty well, for the most part. Dad takes Daughter to school in the mornings, because if he didn’t Daughter would have to be up at 5:45am to get ready to catch the bus. She still gets up at 6:30 as it is! Youngest Son leaves to ride his bus just before I have to leave to get Middle Son to his school. The middle school starts at 8:15, the other schools both start at 8:45.
In the afternoon, I pick up Middle Son from school, and drive right by Daughter’s bus stop, picking her up and bringing her home with us. Youngest Son arrives home by his own bus about 45 minutes later. It works. Usually.
Today, Dad has a breakfast meeting. Last night, Daughter was up quite late talking to us about a few issues she’s having at school – relatively minor issues, but not without some drama on her part, so that the conversation was lots longer than it needed to be. It’s OK, she needed to talk, so we did. BUT there’s NO way she’s going to be able to get up for 5:45am and be at all functioning.
SO, Mom (that would be ME) will get to do a crazy run around in a bit. Dad has done this run around on a Friday morning already once, so we know it is possible to get Daughter to school by 8am (the earliest we’re able to drop her off), then Youngest Son to his school for 8:20am (the earliest we’re able to drop him off), and race to the other side of town to drop Middle Son at his school just before the bell rings at 8:45am.
That is just SO weird! It’s going to be nutty!
We’ve already decided we’re having Tim Horton’s for breakfast this morning. At least most of us can eat on the go, then! LOL!
All that weirdness, just on 1 day – not to mention their overall school calendars with different days off and such. They match for the most part, but those few days where they don’t match make things very interesting.
And don’t get me started about the drop-off/pick-up loop at school! That’s another whole post of its own, I’m sure! And PURE weirdness (in this case, likely just plain stupidity)!
Having 3 kiddos at 3 schools will be an adventure, and this will be the norm for the next few years. OH BOY! Welcome to some more weirdness! LOL!
*** Join me in the weirdness… I KNOW you’ve encountered SOMETHING weird somewhere this week!! Leave me a comment and tell me all about it!! ***
Wow! I remember with the boys had two different ball games going on at two different fields at the same time. Truly is a crazy time.

The Things We Find Inside
Hey Sweet M…
We have the kids at three schools this year too…elementary, middle and HIGH! Ack I can't be old enough to have a 6'2" 185lb football playing son either – so I understand how you are feeling about having your DD in middle school. We are very lucky – you can actually see all the schools from our place, though if Ren gets the job we are hoping for; our wierdness will increase with the advent of shift work and before and after school care.
thanks for sharing your life's weirdness, it reminds me to count my blessings!
Ok, I win. 😉 I have three kids at FOUR schools!!!! Thank God (really) for carpools. Most pastor's wives are either weird or fake. I MUCH prefer weird, so right on!
Following now from MBC. Would love a follow back.
