I have to rave again about my new favorite music group, Perpetuum Jazzile. (see my first rave about their music video “Africa” here.)
I bought one of their CDs after seeing their Africa video on YouTube as well as this one: Čudna noč (pronounced Chood-na No-ch and it means “Strange Night”)
I can’t understand anything they are saying on this song, and yet it’s stuck in my head all the time. I just LOVE it! Even my kiddos have been singing it – at least, they have been trying to sing whatever words they THINK the Slovenians are singing! It was after seeing this music video that I decided to buy their CD by the same title.
The Čudna noč CD that I ordered was probably the best $21US that I have spent in a while, and was well worth the almost 2-weeks time it took to get to me all the way from Slovenia.
While there are many songs on the CD that are in Slovenian, more than half of the songs are in English, and they are VERY well done. I have to mention again that most of their music is done A Capella (without instruments). The arrangements they have come up with for these pop music hits are amazing!
My favorite English song on the CD is probably their version of Stevie Wonder’s “As”, with a close 2nd being their very upbeat rendition of “Joyful, Joyful (Lord we adore thee)”. There are 2 songs (including “Joyful, Joyful”) that have a rap section, and the rapper is Slovenian, so I don’t understand him, but it is kinda cool.
My favorite song from the CD by far is still the title track, “Čudna noč”.
I’m still looking for this kind of choir to get involved with. It’s SO fun, and good music. They are REAL musicians – no fluff here!
I’m also looking forward to their next album release on October 1 – Africa! I’m on the waiting list for them to let me know as soon as I can order it! And if they ever make a North American stop (even a TOUR perhaps) I will do everything in my power to be there!
I’m not a real groupie kind of person, and I rarely go all out for celebrities or other public figures. But I’m subscribed to these guys on YouTube, and I’m a member of the Facebook Fan Page as well. I really like them, and I love keeping up with them. I guess I’m a PJ groupie!
I can’t understand half of what they’are saying, but Perpetuum Jazzile ROCKS in any language!!
