Welcome to Weird Wednesdays, hosted by It’s OK to be WEIRD!

My friend, Ruth, over at MomsMusings is the inspiration for this post.  You’ve really got to read her post on Dinner Conversations before you read this post.

My family has also laughed at the French translation of Egg Nog … lait de la poule – literally Chicken Milk! But we never went so far as Ruth’s family did to make the connection with milking chickens! No idea how we didn’t end up in that kind of conversation ourselves.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my youngest, MrCutie, when he was about 4 or 5. He’s quite an affectionate kiddo, love snuggling and kissing (then and now).  Somehow we were talking about chicken fingers and how chickens don’t really have fingers. So, talking about chicken parts, something came up about chicken lips. I said, “Chickens don’t have lips, either.” MrCutie, absolutely incredulous, wide-eyed, said, “Then how do they smooch?” LOL!  He could not even fathom the idea of life without smooches.  Poor chickens!

Then there was another conversation with my 11yo daughter, Sweetheart, about a month ago… I was at Wal-Mart with all 3 kiddos and we wanted to buy some hot dogs. My Sweetie can’t have pork, so we were deciding between beef and chicken hotdogs. The package of chicken hot dogs said, “Chicken Wieners.” My daughter leaned over to me to whisper in my ear, out of earshot of her younger brothers, “Mom, I didn’t think chickens had wieners.” We had a hard time containing our giggles so as to keep the boys from becoming interested in our conversation – questionable chicken parts wasn’t exactly what we wanted to be discussing with the boys in the lunch meat aisle at Wal-Mart!

You never know what you’re going to get, conversation or otherwise, when you’re dealing with chicken parts!
