Welcome to Weird Wednesdays, hosted by It’s OK to be WEIRD!
Apparently it’s OK to be weird even if you’re a BUG!
As reported on Discovery News Even Bugs Have Personality.
THE GIST
-
Every organism on Earth has its own unique personality, finds new research.
-
Genes, gender, life experiences and environmental conditions shape personality, even among bugs.
-
Personality traits, such as boldness, may be beneficial in one context but not in another.
According to a study done by the Behavioral Ecology Research Group at the University of Debrecen (and reported at Discovery.com), some insects, within the same species, are shy and others more bold. Some explore more quickly than others. Some are more aggressive in the same situations. And field crickets are nearly as widely varied in personality as we humans are, some being quite passive, and others being more like Evel Kweevil, er, Knievel.
Who would have guessed it?
Well, ME, for one! LOL! It makes TOTAL sense to me!
I think this is the field of study that my youngest son needs to get into. He’s constantly making friends with millipedes, ladybugs, snails and slugs, earthworms, grasshoppers, and most recently, a flying ant (“it can’t bite me, Mom. See, the pinchers are too small – they just kinda rub over my thumb…”). He’d be great at discovering personalities of bugs.
And he, of all of us, would be able to encourage the bugs in their being themselves. After all, he’s the one who often reminds me of my own motto: “I know kissing a moth is weird, Mom, but it’s OK to be weird!”
I can now say that science has proven my son’s statement (and my motto). Bugs are individuals, different from each other, and yes, maybe even weird when compared to one another.
But who can fault a bug? What choice does it have in the matter? It just IS how it is – end of story. And that just goes to show that it IS OK to be weird!
See, I told ya!
But you aren’t a bug – you’re a person, and if you’re here, reading this right now, you’re probably a weirdie. What choice do you have in whether you’re weird or not? You just ARE who you are – end of story!
It’s OK to be weird, even if you’re a bug, but you’re not a bug, and it’s still OK.
That’s totally awesome news on this Weird Wednesday!!!
*** Join me in the weirdness… I KNOW you’ve encountered SOMETHING weird somewhere this week!! Leave me a comment and tell me all about it!! ***
Hey, glad you found me too! I was getting horribly spammed on my other site, so I had to close it. How are you? HOw did you find me?
Love to you, do think of you heaps.

I like your blog maybe it is because I'm weird but comfortable with it.
My weird event this week was someone came by and spammed me 52 times but my spam guard caught it so it didn't publish. I cleared those out and they came back and spammed me 50 more times….Weird!
Grace
Wow, thanks for the insight on bugs! Maybe that's why I don't usually squish them and put them outside.
Everything has a purpose.
Found you on the MBC. New follower.
Tell your youngest son one of your readers thinks he's pretty awesome and we all can learn from him.
Stop by when you get a chance.
