Welcome to Weird Wednesdays, hosted by It’s OK to be WEIRD!
Last Thursday was Chinese New Year! We are not Chinese, but we love to celebrate just about everything, and while living in Vancouver we always celebrated Chinese New Year with some friends there. Now, it’s tradition!
I keep it more simple for Chinese New Year than, say, Cinco De Mayo (which I go ALL out for) – dinner was stir fry with rice, served with red sweet-n-sour sauce, on red plates, with 7-up and Grenadine in red cups. Red, red and more red! I wore my Chinese shirt with cool earrings, too, of course! LOL!
Oh, and we had fortune cookies, too! Can’t do Chinese New Year without fortune cookies!
In my first fortune cookie I got 2 fortunes. I guess I’m extra fortunate! MrCutie didn’t think I should get another cookie – we were all having 2 each – because I had already gotten 2 fortunes! Well, I did get another cookie. 🙂 My fortunes were:
Fortune #1: You are no doubt obligated to do the proper thing. (blech)
Fortune #2: Working life will become more varied. Try some new ideas. (if you’re trying new ideas THEN working life would become more varied, I think…)
Fortune #3: You are kind and trustworthy by nature. (that’s not even a fortune… is it? more like a statement…?)
When I posted these fortunes on Twitter, I got some interesting tweets in response:
I’m telling you, this is PURE Fortune Cookie AWESOMENESS! How much weirder can you get? Fortune cookie fortunes are always random, sometimes ridiculous, rarely right, though apparently, as for MumsnChums, also occasionally accurate!
If nothing else, fortune cookie fortunes are fun and good for a laugh, as long as nobody takes them too seriously. Not to mention getting to eat a tiny semi-sweet treat!
Have you had an fortune cookie awesomeness lately?
*** Join me in the weirdness, too… I KNOW you’ve encountered SOMETHING weird somewhere this week!! Leave me a comment and tell me all about it!! And have a look around for more Weird Wednesdays here on my blog!***
Well, this didn't happen lately. It was about 14 years ago. One day, I was driving with my toddler in the back seat and it was raining. I had to stop behind a car that was turning left and, next thing I knew, a truck had slid (slidden? slod? LOL!) into the back of me. I turned into a stark-raving lunatic because it was the FIFTH time in 10 years someone had hit me. Seriously??!!
Anyway, I began quipping to my family & friends that I should put a magnet on the bumper, since I seemed to attract cars anyway!
A few days later, we went to a Chinese restaurant and my fortune was – "You have a magnetic personality!"
Love it! My last fortune said "Next time get the shrimp" hahahaha
I had one years ago that said, "something good. it's a going to happen" the grammar cracked me up so much that years later I still say that in order to pep up the friend I was with when i got that fortune.
thanks for stopping by my blog
OH Cara, that's just amazing! It's funny now, but I'm sure it wasn't so funny then!
Mry – That fortune could NOT be mine – I'm allergic to shrimp. 🙁 BUt it would still be funny!
Jennifer – that cracks me up! You know they are genuine Chinese fortune cookies when the English grammar is all wrong! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
I once tried to play the lottery using the numbers off of a fortune. It was off by one number every time! Thanks for the follow- returning the love!
Great post! Can't wait to read more "weirdness" 🙂
