Every day, for the next month, spend a minimum of 10 minutes to just “be” – be quiet, be still, and be available to what God wants to say to you. That means no pen and paper, no planning calendar, no books, no music. Simply sit with a cup of tea, coffee or water in a favorite spot or take a stroll or soak in a hot tub – just you and God.

This may mean you have to get up earlier or find a time of the day when there will be no distractions – but believe me, it’s worth it.

You will be amazed at the difference this habit will make in your life as a leader.

I have enjoyed this activity already very much. In the last few weeks my husband has been preaching on Spiritual Disciplines, and meditation and silence were the topics of 2 of his sermons. So these ideas were fresh in my mind when I read this passage.

I started with 15 minutes, as suggested by my Pastor (who also happens to be my husband). The first time I tried it, after 5 minutes I was having a terrible time keeping my mind off of ‘stuff’ and ‘other stuff’ and ‘people’ and ‘other people’s stuff’. I was easily distracted and I thought 15 minutes would take FOREVER to go by.

I said as much to the Lord, and continued to still my mind and the one thought that came to mind was, “God is SO Good!” I just thought that over and over, and was quiet and at peace.

The next thing I knew, I looked up at the clock and it had been 30 minutes!! (My boys were having their own almost-quiet-time in their bedroom during this time…) So, I knew then that I could do this, and it wasn’t going to kill me!

There weren’t necessarily any realizations, revelations, etc. during that 30 minutes. It was more about just being in His presence. That alone was worth the effort. And I felt better equipped to deal with the rest of my busy day.

SHHHHHH….I’m going to have some ‘just being’ time now!

Bring it Home #2 and #3 still need more processing before I can post my thoughts… in case you were wondering where they are.
