Today, we’ll open a box. It’s not going to be an easy box to open, for me at least.
It’s a box that was sent to me right after my Great-Grandma (GG) passed away, in August of last year.
I know what’s in the box, because I asked for it. That doesn’t make it any easier to open it.
I didn’t open the box when I first got it, because I wasn’t feeling like I wanted to open up the emotions at the time. And it hasn’t felt like the right time since then.
But today is GG’s birthday – would have been her 97th – and it feels like the right time.
In the box is the very first full-sized quilt I ever made, and it was a gift for GG over 10 years ago. There are more details and photos of it over in the post 1st Sampler – in Honour of GG at my Creations by Sweet Mummy blog. It’s VERY special to have it, and I’m so glad it was returned to me… like I said in my quilt post, “I’m sad that I have it back again because it means GG is gone from this Earth. But the quilt is a treasure, and I am glad that I got it back.)
We’re going to open the box in celebration of GG’s life, after having cinnamon rolls with apple butter for brunch. She always made awesome cinnamon rolls and apple butter (I probably can’t get anywhere close to hers on the rolls, though I’ve been told my apple butter is pretty close, and it’s the thought that counts, right?). For dinner I thought we might have pizza with beer – she loved pizza, and she rarely drank any alcohol, but being a good German, she always said that the pizza digested better if she had a beer to go with it. LOL! If not pizza, then maybe a ‘goulash’ of some kind…
I miss my GG lots. She was very special to me. I need to do a whole post (or series) on her and her life. She was a fantastic lady!
Happy Birthday, GG!
Have a great celebration!
What a beautiful post! I hope you treasure your evening of wonderful memories.
