I’m glad to say that the transition from Blogger over to WordPress hasn’t been quite as painful as I thought it was going to be. There are guides, and templates, and great hosting packages, and plug-ins in place now that help nicely with the whole process. I am aware that some who ventured to switch from Blogger to WordPress even a year ago didn’t have all the tools that we do now, and it was a much different animal, then.
As fantastic as all my tools have been (and those mentioned above have been VERY helpful), and as seamlessly as I’ve been able to continue from the old platform to the new one, it’s not without a few hiccups.
Don’t go and look right now, but if you are browsing some of the older posts, you’ll find that not all of my comments imported as ME (Raylene) only as SweetMummy, and so they don’t show up with the special blue background like my comments will on newer posts.
If you browse the home page, and go back to even just 1 page of older entries (older than this post, anyway), you’ll see that none of the images are showing in the excerpts directly on the home page, though they all show properly in the posts themselves. WordPress really is better suited to using a FEW categories and using more tags for post descriptions. So I’ve imported about a BILLION 579 categories and now will have to adjust how I’m labeling my posts. In theory, I could go back and change the past posts, post by post, picking a few key categories to keep and tagging the post more. IN THEORY… But, that’s just not going to happen. Not when I imported 400+ posts!!
And it’s possible that other weird things are happening here on the new location as well – I just haven’t figured them out yet.
For the most part, things are as they should be! For those things that aren’t quite ‘right, for the time being, and maybe forever more, it will have to do!
I had to be fine with the same things too. I can’t focus on all the past posts, just moving head from here!
Great post, you did so well in the move.
Welcome to WordPress.
Smiles,
Jody
that’s what I thought, too, Jody. Just make things work as well as I possibly can from here on out! 😀
I’m sticking with Blogger and all it’s issues. It’s so less…confusing for me. LOL. I know a lot of blogs that switched over to WordPress who have experienced the same type of things you have but are, as you are, happy with WordPress. I am too OCD to not let all the glitches with the old posts not bug me. I just can’t make the switch. At least not yet. I’m not a big blog (or even a smallish blog) so while glitches on Blogger are annoying it’s not a big deal.
