My GG taught me to quilt. My Mom-in-Love quilts, and now her Mom, Mimi, and her sister-in-law quilts, too. My sweetie’s great-Grandmother on his dad’s side quilted. My aunt quilts. I quilt. My daughter quilts.
Quilting is a precious family tradition now.
The time spent making quilts for family members is also precious. I always pray for the person I’m working on the project for.
Working on projects together with my Mom-in-Love and my daughter has provided learning, growing, sharing times. Shopping for fabrics and patterns, and then the actual sewing and quilting…I wouldn’t trade those times for anything.
When giving a gift to a family member, I have yet to have one that was not well received. Most people recognize the countless hours of work that go into a quilt, and appreciate the gift that it really is. I know my children are always thrilled when they get a new quilt from either me or Gram, sometimes to the point of tears. That is VERY special to me.
I thought I would share a slideshow of some of the family quilts we’ve been passing around. I’m missing quite a few photos, but you get some of the idea.
Even a hobby, like quilting, can be the catalyst for precious family time, making memories around the creation, giving, and using of quilts. I like to think of it as weaving some more threads into the fabric of our family!
