Normally, this is my favorite time of the year.  LONG bright days, just getting to the perfect temperature each day, and school is almost out for the year.  I always look forward to the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.  We have a million hours of daylight on the solstice (ok… not a million, but you get the idea) and it’s so fantastic to sit on the deck and watch the sun set at about 11pm, with twilight lasting a LOOONG time into the night.

This year, we’ve got a lot of rain, and a lot of clouds, and we’ve rarely seen the sunshine to even see the sunset the last few weeks.  I’m really missing the long sunshiney days, thanks to clouds I thought I left behind in BC.

So, yes, today is the summer solstice, and yes we will see the sun.  I’m just hoping for there to be light clouds (or no clouds, if I may be so bold) so that I can really enjoy the solstice. It looks like it’s going to pan out that way – a great forecast for today, actually!

I try not to think about the fact that the summer solstice also means we start losing daylight hours, heading to the winter solstice that can be so dark here in the northern parts of the world.

Instead, I’ll hope that we get to see most of the 18 or so hours of daylight that we’ll have today.  I’m hoping I won’t be singing the Summer Solstice Blues, but that I’ll be seeing lots of bright blue sky and warm golden sunshine today!
