Often when I go to Wal-Mart these days, I’m given a survey code on my cashier receipt. The survey code allows me the opportunity to go to an online site to fill out a survey about my visit to Wal-Mart. Have you seen these? They are printed on your receipt and look something like this:
*****************************************
Enter for a chance to Win 1 of 3
$1000 CDN Wal-Mart Gift Cards
To enter, please complete a survey
about today’s store visit at:

We want to know how
we’re doing!
Well, for a chance at $1000 to spend at Wal-Mart, I have been taking about 15 minutes at a time to fill out most of the survey requests I receive.
The survey itself is interesting. It always asks the same questions, doesn’t care if you respond incorrectly and would like to ‘fix’ an answer, and doesn’t really seem to care if you have more to say than their radio-buttons will allow. There is no place to provide any feedback that doesn’t fit onto a scale of “Completely Unsatisfied” to “Completely Satisfied”, or some other similar description scale. There have been a few times when I’ve really had a thing or two (or ten!) to say about my visit to Wal-Mart, and the survey has conveniently not given me any way to share those things.
That’s one thing, but today I was wondering when the drawing for these $1000 gift cards was to take place. It’s clear when submitting your name for entry into that drawing that within 14 days of the drawing you’ll be contacted if you are one of the 3 lucky winners. But I had to search a bit to find the drawing date.
Here’s what I found:
The Sweepstakes ends at 11:59:59 pm ET on July 31, 2012, however, mail-in entries will be accepted up to August 2, 2012 for the drawing on August 16, 2012 as set out in Rule 4 below.
July 31, 2012!!
You’ve GOT to be kidding me!
ALL entries from surveys completed between now and July 31, 2012 will be entered into a draw for 3 (THREE!) $1000 Wal-Mart Gift Cards!?
Am I the only one who thinks this is completely crazy? ALL those surveys for ONLY 3 prizes!? And don’t get me wrong – I could use $1000, but that’s a pretty chintzy prize, Wal-Mart….
I’m really not sure it’s worth my 15 minutes 2x a month (how often I go to Wal-Mart) knowing that there will likely be MILLIONS of entries all competing for THREE measly gift cards.
I know if you don’t enter, you can’t win. But I’m not thinking I’ll be doing these weird Wal-Mart surveys anymore. No thanks!
WOW! I used to feel a little guilty for not taking time to do these surveys. I certainly don’t now.
It kinda does put it in perspective, doesn’t it!? LOL!
I am with you. It seems that the chances of winning are almost the same as winning the lottery, considering all the stores all over the country. On the other hand, I know I do not fill out the surveys – it would be interesting to know what percentage of customers actually do. Your odds may be better than you think! 🙂
I wondered about that, too… but I’m still not thinking it’s worth my time! LOL!
If the surveys were shorter I would do them but they are too long for me.
yah, 15 minutes for a nil chance of winning……. too long!
wow – that’s pretty cheap walmart – way to rollback some thanks to customers. that’s terrible!!
I thought so, too, Tammi!!! Totally seemed cheap to me….
I only take the time to do those surveys if I get an immediate reward. I often do the Payless Shoes because you get a dollar amount off. I’ve never bothered with Wal Mart surveys…then again I only visit Wal Mart about six times in the year.
There’s something to be said for that, Pam! I know we’ve done Montana’s surveys and places like that for the same thing – get a free appetizer next time you come, or something. THOSE make much better sense, and in general, they are better surveys, it seems.
Yah,the walmart ones are pretty long,,I dont bother with them that much,,but I recently won a $500 gift card from Foodland/Sobeys for doing a survey on the back of a receipt! I was shocked and thrilled when they called me to tell me I won a $500 gc! 🙂
OMG! I did my first LAST night, and totally didn’t realize the year! What a rip!
Oh, my goodness. You’d probably have similar odds with a state lottery, considering how many people shop at Wal-Mart. You’d be better off using that 15 minutes to blog and earn a little money that way. :0)
I have seen these surveys but have never taken the time to fill any of them out. Now I know why. Great post!
I fill out these surveys for Walmart, thinking I’m helping them by letting them know about my experiences there! It’s SUCH A WASTE OF TIME!! I get STUPID phone calls from magazine promoters, telling me I won a $100 Walmart gift card if I subscribe to 3 “free” magazines! But, then, after I do that, they tell me I have to subscribe to a WEEKLY magazine at a “discount” price! OH, PLEASE–WHAT A RIP-OFF AND A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME! Believe me, I will express my DISPLEASURE to the Walmart associates next time I shop there! It’s nothing but a RIP OFF! And, the WORST part is I DON’T EVEN LIKE MAGAZINES! But, I figure if I get a few FREE magazines for awhile, it’s worth getting a $100 Walmart gift card! DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME PEOPLE–UNLESS YOU WANT A BUNDLE OF MAGAZINES THAT YOU’LL END UP PAYING FOR LATER!!
