If you’re online much at all these days, you know that there are LIKE buttons everywhere.  If you click one of those buttons, it posts to your Facebook page that you ‘liked’ that thing/page/person/article/whatever…

Or if you’re on Facebook itself, and someone posts a status update, you can LIKE their update, you can LIKE someone’s comment to their update, you can LIKE just about every activity that takes place on Facebook.

I’ve discovered that clicking the “LIKE” button, especially within conversations on Facebook, can mean many different things.  The problem is that clicking “LIKE” only says that you liked it, but it could in fact mean any one of or combination of the following things:

I like what you said.
I agree.
I see what you mean.
I can relate.
I think this is funny.
I saw this and acknowledge having seen it.

I asked about this on Facebook and Twitter both.

(conversation transcript – from the image above:)
Me: When you “LIKE” a status update or comment on Facebook, what do you really MEAN by it?  I wanna know.

Felicia:  Either I agree or I think it is funny or I can relate.  depends on the status.
Jessica: I agree with her.
Rhonda: Yep, Same here. 🙂
Michelle: Yep! me too!
(yah, they are a bunch of jokers on my FB page – I LOVE ’em!)
Daphne: usually when I click like on a status it means I took the time to read it and usually I only have a few seconds so I want the person to know that the post meant something to me so clicking like is the quickest way of showing them.

Twitter was just about the same:

coffee_po: It means I like or agree with it.  Sometimes I click like though just to show I’m acknowledging it (don’t really like it)
ccthebrat: usually that you agree with what they are saying… or feel the same way

Who knew a simple “Like” could mean so much!?

What do YOU mean when you click a “Like” on a Facebook conversation?  I wanna know.
