I’m loving our new church. It’s a good place to be, and we’re making new friends. My sweetie’s new ministry position is a really good fit for him, and the Spirit is obviously at work in our midst. It’s an exciting time.
Yesterday, we started, as a whole church, 40 Days of Love. It is based on the book The Relationship Principles of Jesus by Tom Holladay.
The book is a 40-day devotional, and almost 200 copies went out at church on Sunday. We were asked to commit to 4 things during this time:
1.) To listen to each of the messages (7 in total) preached at the Sunday services (either in person, online, or by ordering a CD).
2.) To read the devotional daily.
3.) To carry the scripture memory card with us and memorize each week’s key verse.
4.) To pactice the practical ways our Lead Pastor give us to put what we’re learning into our daily lives.
All the small groups in the church will also be participating in the weekly group discussions, either using just the book and study guide, or by following along with the DVD series.
It’s a tremendous time of getting everyone on the same page, more or less. We’re all excited about it!
Basically, as I understand it now, we’ll be focusing first on loving God, then loving ourselves, and finally on loving our neighbors.
From the back cover of The Relationship Principles of Jesus:
What would you give to radically improve, even transform, what matters most in your relationships? How about forty days of your time?
In forty days, bring new depth and health to your marriage, your family, your friendships. In six weeks, you’ll explore and implement six foundational principles that Jesus taught and lived. You’ll be equipped with insights and a practical path for fulfilling God’s intention for all your relationships – even the difficult ones.
… The Relationship Principles of Jesus will profoundly shape how you view relationships.
I’m really excited about this initiative, program, series, what-do-you-call-it… I have commited to the 4 areas and may blog about my devotional time daily. I usually write anway… it might be worth sharing!
