I’m a HUGE Vancouver Canucks hockey fan.  We never watched hockey at all until we moved to Vancouver in 1998, so obviously, they are OUR team!

Just a few hours ago I watched the Canucks do something I’ve never seen them do before – win the Western Conference Finals of the NHL Playoffs to make it to the Stanley Cup final.

GO BIG BLUE!

Vancouver beat the San Jose Sharks in Double Overtime to finish out the series.  It was an awesome game, and to say that I love these guys would be an understatement!

But Kevin Bieksa’s game winning goal in 2OT is possibly the weirdest goal in history, and definitely worthy of being featured on Weird Wednesday this week.

If you can’t see this video, visit Canucks TV to see it there.

I’m no sports commentator, but I LOVE what happened here. It is such a weird bounce leading to an equally weird goal that it’s just awesome!

What is SO awesomely weird is that NOBODY on the ice knew where the puck was, EXCEPT Kevin Bieksa! EVERYONE thought the puck was headed out around the boards, and they were watching for it to come around to the right side of the goalie. EVERY player on the ice was looking to the near corner, waiting for the puck to show up on the other side…. except Bieksa. He saw the puck pop off the partition, and while the rest of the players were thinking the puck had gone up into the netting, he was putting into the Sharks goal. NOBODY had a clue what was going on. Kevin even said it was not a great shot – he called it a “duck” because it kinda wobbled and hopped into the net, but nobody, not even the Canucks, knew it was even headed to the net. Crazy goal, weird goal, but we’ll take ’em however we can get ’em!

TOTALLY wacky, TOTALLY weird, TOTALLY awesome!

I already loved Kevin Bieksa before tonight – he’s got an amazing work ethic, he’s a tremendous hockey player, and his interviews with the press always keep me laughing because he’s a smart and funny guy who thinks quick on his feet. Bieksa’s quotes are always priceless, with a little bit of snarkiness and attitude. Today, Kevin Bieksa is my hero (followed closely – very closely – by Ryan Kesler)!

Kevin Bieksa’s weird conference-finals-winning goal will never be forgotten in the history of hockey.

Man I love this team!
