Gas, gasoline, fuel, petrol, diesel, diesel fuel…. whatever you want to call it, I keep hearing complaints about the cost of filling up your car with it.

We recently traveled in the States, and we didn’t mind filling our tank while we were there, because the gas prices there were LESS than they are here.

YES, I said LESS!

Somebody freaked out about paying $3.77 per gallon (which was the highest price we paid while traveling).  This didn’t freak us out at all.

Here’s why.

The last time Sweetie fuelled my minivan, he paid $1.29….. PER LITRE!

To put that in terms you’ll understand:

1 gallon = 3.78 litres

So not considering the exchange rate between the US and Canadian Dollars (which is a tiny bit in our favor right now, for once in a very long time), our fuel costs:

$1.29 x 3.78 = $4.88 per gallon

Diesel costs just about the same amount, though thankfully our VW Jetta can go almost forever on a tank of diesel.

A quick check of British fuel costs shows that they pay about $2.22 USD per litre or $8.39 USD per gallon.  And they aren’t the highest – Eritrea pays over $10 per gallon.

So, all of my most beloved American friends and family – can we please stop complaining about the fuel costs?  If not, I’ll trade with you – I’ll gladly pay to fill your minivan if you’ll pay to fill mine!
