Congratulations to Ruth @ MomsMusings
our winner of The Crossmaker on DVD giveaway!

Celebrating Easter at our house doesn’t have anything to do with bunnies.  We try to focus on the real meaning of the holiday.  We enjoy things that help us to focus on Christ’s death and resurrection during this time of year. And we’ve found a new family DVD perfect for the season.

Our Review

The Crossmaker is a beautifully narrated and illustrated Easter story.  The art is beautiful, showing the particulars of the story in lovely detail. The story itself is extra-Biblical (i.e., it’s not a story directly out of the Bible, but a tale built around a Bible story), but clearly tells the full Easter story from Jesus’ crucifixion to His resurrection. My kiddos enjoyed the video.  I love how the Grandfather is sitting with his grandkids and telling the story to them, while the story is being illustrated in pictures. We all liked that it was a relatively short story.  And we all enjoyed the special features, especially the Creative Lettering art lesson on the word Glory.

The Crossmaker DVD is graphically striking, with delightful chalk art illustrations.  Here’s a video preview of the DVD.

My oldest son, BudBud is our resident artist in the house.  The art lessons were really fun and a bit different than the ones we saw on “The Gift of Love”.  The mixed media art lesson with the 3 crosses on a hill was particularly cool – using watercolors, markers and crayons for the desired effects.

I would say that the ‘film’ part of the DVD is best suited to younger elementary school children, and the art lessons will work for just about anybody with basic art skills.

It’s nice to have another Easter video to add to our collection!
