A funny thing happened at Montana’s the other day…
dangerous underwire |
This escaped underwire was quite painful, seriously jabbing me. The end of the wire had no coating or padding on it, so once it popped out of the sleeve where it belongs it was just bare rough wire on bare skin in a relatively delicate area of my body, close to my heart.
Who knew that perusing the menu was a strenuous enough activity to cause the underwire of a bra to pop out like that?
I couldn’t help but say, “OUCH!” (MANY times) and attempt to adjust things to reposition the offending wire, while still sitting at the table. My son who was sitting next to me, and who’s birthday we were celebrating, had the perfect ‘fix’ for it though – he informed me that I should just go into the washroom and, “Take off your bras.” (yes, he always pluralizes it… no idea why!) I told him I probably wouldn’t do that but I would go and see if I could put it back together or something.
It turns out that I did have to ‘take it all off’ (in the privacy of my own personal washroom stall) to try and fix things. I remember thinking, “Shoot, this is one of my VERY favorite bras!” I wondered if maybe the easiest thing to do would be to just take the wire out completely, thinking that I could replace it later. I couldn’t get the wire out – it was stitched in to the opposite end and I couldn’t get it loose. So, I was able to sorta get the wire back inside the sleeve, and I figured as long as I didn’t move too much that it would stay together long enough to get me home.
Anyway, it did make it home, and I think I can get it all stitched back into place. Bras are rarely as comfortable once they are repaired, but I’ll give it a try, since it is one of my favorites.
My major wardrobe malfunction was painful for me, but MrCutie thought it was pretty funny in all (he just turned 9) as did his Dad! Dad even wanted to help check it out, of course! LOL!
This is only the 2nd time this has happened to me (before, the wire was coated with a little something and was quite as dangerous). Hoping it doesn’t happen again soon. Oh the things we do for ‘fashion’.
A funny thing happened….? Yah, I can say it’s funny, now! But major wardrobe malfunctions can be dangerous, and are no laughing matter. HA!
Ouch!!! And LOL 🙂 such a funny story hope the underwite stay well under where it shoul be 🙂

For my 3rd!!! Yeah 3rd comment I hope my phone doesn't mess it up! I meant "underwire". Holy moly I'm sorry my phone is out to make a fool out of me 😉
I've had that happen several times and just stopped wearing underwire bras. They just hurt too much, lol
Oh, how funny! it has happened to me so many times, and the fixings where just as disastrous. Mine have also involved the under "wire" to snap in half! I feel like I'm going all lady gaga, especially with all the weird shapes it takes, hehehe…
Melanie – yup, it was an OUCH and a LOL! And no wories – I can read "mobile phone speak", "chat speak", and most other internet speak! 🙂
Lorri, I know what you mean. I just prefer them (underwires) but if this continues I may reconsider! 🙂
Maria – underwire snapping in half sounds very painful. Either Lady Gaga or Madonna! LOL!
I quit wearing underwires when that happened to me. I think it's hysterical that your sons calls them 'bras'. Mine also pluralizes words for no apparent reason!
This has happened to me too!! But for some reason mine broke on both sides!! So I got double poked! Fixed them and they broke like a week later…that bra is far gone
I hate it when you lose a favorite bra – the worst! It has happened to me before and can never quite get the offending wire back the way it was and never feels the same. so sad whan a close member of the family gets broken 🙂
The wire started popping out of my bra (first for me ever) at dinner just tonight (a mere 2 hours ago so your post was so timely) so I quickly yet awkwardly reached into the top of my shirt and pulled the wire out at the table and just slipped it inside my bag. Done. My dad was like, "what dad you just do?" I said "nothing" and no one knew a thing.
I can't figure out why they don't cover the ends of those things. I've had several underwires do that same thing except it's usually under the arm. They HURT!
Ouch! Hope the team was ok!
I think you should no longer repair it but just replace it altogether. No bra, no matter if it's your favorite, is worth wearing if that will pose danger, pain and discomfort to you. Just be careful with your wardrobe. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
