About MOST

THE MOST:  The Deluxe Edition DVD
33-minute short film directed by Bobby Garabedian

MOST, the Czech word for “The Bridge,” is a fitting title for this 21st-century parable about a loving father, his young son, and the fateful day when they attempt to head off an impending rail disaster. Hundreds of passengers aboard an oncoming steam train are completely unaware of the danger that looms as they head toward an open drawbridge. As a desperate young woman witnesses an act of mercy beyond imagination, her life is changed forever—as are the lives of all who see this film. Both heart wrenching and glorious, MOST vividly portrays the greatest offering of love, sacrifice, hope, and forgiveness known to man

My Review

Let me start by saying that on the night we watched this DVD it was a 2nd choice, the first being Indiana Jones – but since Indi is on VHS and our VCR had stopped working, we only had the DVD player as an option.  So we went with our newest DVD, MOST.  I mention this because the kiddos were really looking forward to watching Indiana Jones for the first time, and even with the change of plans, they all said they were really glad we watched THIS movie.

My daughter and I were sitting beside each other on the couch while watching the movie, and there were times when we reacted the same way to some scenes: putting our hands to our mouth in surprise, giggling, etc. The whole family cried together and laughed together during this short movie.

My Sweetie knew I would like MOST when I had to turn the subtitles on, and when it became obvious that the story wasn’t playing in chronological order. Neither the subtitles nor the flashbacks bothered any of us though.  Just made it more fun!

We had a fantastic discussion after the movie!  The powerful story gave us much to talk about.  Most of our talk centered around the sacrifice that the father made – the sacrifice of one person to save the lives of many, and how those people were oblivious to the fact that it had happened, for the most part.  The young woman whose life changed on that day, and the magnitude of that change, seemed to be a redeeming factor for the Dad – not making it 100% better, but maybe lessening the hurt of the sacrifice a bit.  It’s a beautiful parable, well filmed, well told.

I asked my kiddos what they thought of MOST:

Sweetheart (age 11): It was a great movie.  But sort of sad at the same time.  It reminded me of the story of Christ.

BudBud (age 10):  I thought it was a little sad. Very interesting, though. I like how it starts in the future and then it’s flashbacks of what happened. I think it’s cute when the father says, “It’s cold at the bridge,” and the boy says, “Then we’ll bring hot chocolate.”  To me it feels like there’s a moral to the story: Don’t take your kids to work – no just kidding.  That even if you are losing one person that is very close to you that it may save thousands more people.

MrCutie (age 9): The movie made me really sad. It just made me go into tears the night which we watched it. I thought about it lots for the next few days. But it was a good movie.  It’s just like the story of God – he sacrificed his own son, Jesus.  I also thought that the boy in the movie had a good mind – he was wanting to help his Dad.  (after reading the DVD cover to him, at first MrCutie was disappointed that there was NO train wreck, but the story was bigger than that and he figured that out real fast.)

I HIGHLY recommend this DVD – it would be an ideal discussion starter for a family, church, small group, youth group, etc.  It is a MUST HAVE for your family or church movie library.  Find more info about the movie on the MOST the Movie Facebook Page.
