As parents, we have the opportunity to be creative with our children’s learning, both their academic learning and their spiritual learning. When I find a new resource that is helpful along those lines, I do like to pass it along. And today I have a great DVD to tell you about, and a chance for 2 of my readers to get their own free copies to try out, too! The new DVD series is called THEO.

Theo

About THEO

Theo Presents is centered around the adventures and teachings of the main character, Theo, a student of Godʼs Word. Theo lives in a cozy corner of a quaint English village, in the heart of the Cotswolds, and entertains many guests, including two mice, Belfry and Luther.

The animation series of Theo guides children and adults through a careful study of systematic theology. Theo discusses doctrines about sin, Godʼs character, the Bible, salvation and godly living with easy-to-understand illustrations that make children want to learn more about the Christian faith.

Theo Presents recognizes a universal fact: children and adults alike love cartoons. Theo captures the attention of young minds with liberal amounts of humor and high quality animation to present the Gospel of the Christian faith through the teachings of Theo and with the use of his two object lessons, Belfry and Luther.

Theo Presents is designed to serve as a multi-media resource tool that will help men, women and children fulfill the Great Commission of Christ, to go into all the world and make disciples and to teach those disciples Godʼs Word. The multi-media outlets include a DVD series, curriculum, books and audio CD series. Each of these facets are designed to work with one another or individually.

Theo was created to reach kids of all ages. The lessons and teachings of Theo can be used for Sunday school lessons, Christian school curriculum, missions, evangelism and homeschooling. The overall purpose of Theo Presents is to provide as many tools as possible to help present the Gospel to many kids and audiences around the world.

My Review

I was a bit hesitant to fully embrace ‘theological’ teaching for children when I was first approached with this DVD. I guess I wanted to be sure that my kiddos are getting the ‘heart knowledge’ about God and the saving relationship of Christ, that I was a bit worried about more ‘head knowledge’. However, there was nothing for me to worry about with Theo.

The THEO DVD is teaching children about God, but it’s always in the context of relationships. My boys reviewed the DVD with me, and what they got out of the short episodes was enough to convince me that they really were understanding the HEART behind the theology.

BudBud’s thoughts on THEO:

I think the mice were really funny. For non-Christian children I think it would point them in the exact direction that God wants them to go in. It gives you a heads up tip, “make sure you are doing these things”. It’s very interesting, very cool. And I’d recommend it to all children, those who are or aren’t Christians.

MrCutie’s thoughts on THEO:

It was a funny movie, the mice were really funny. But it was also basically a story about truth, and what it did to me is it struck my heart and told me what I was doing wrong and how to do things right. I really liked it.

The episodes are short, with lots of fun and humour, so they kept my boys’ attention throughout the whole message. Each episode focuses on ONE thing – God’s Love, Saving Faith, Forgiveness, etc. The animation is very well done (high-quality), and the teachings are Biblically sound, based completely on scripture. The episodes are addressing only BASIC theological principles that I believe most Christians can agree upon, so the DVDs can be used by just about any Christian family or church.

We’ve enjoyed the first of the DVD series, and look forward to learning more together with THEO!
