Welcome to Week 9 of my nutrition and weight-loss journey, in partnership with my fabulous Blog Sponsors Mission4Nutrition.

Summer time is sometimes a hard time to keep up with progress on the weight-loss journey. Routines are ‘off’, and there’s all that yummy summer food at bar-b-ques and on picnics and at the beach and while camping…

OH, CAMPING! That’s a whole story of its own!

A few people I was talking with lately mentioned how hard it is to even maintain their weight over a weekend of camping. SO, as we prepared to go camping last weekend, I was prepping myself!

I took my shake mixes, my herbal tea concentrate, my herbal aloe, and my vitamins and cell activator, and my protein bars with me camping. I drank my shakes for breakfast and lunch, and tried not to overeat for dinner or at smores time.

Our first night, though, while in town, we stopped at DQ for dinner and I DID eat too much, including a mini French Silk Pie blizzard… YUM! But I also worked hard setting up camp. I was hoping it would balance out.

I limited myself to ONE smore on Saturday night – they are SO sweet anyway!

BUT I think what got me was that I wasn’t able to be nearly as active as I had hoped to be. I was thinking that we would be walking and hiking and fishing and canoeing… and instead I was blowing my nose, wiping my eyes, sneezing (trying not to wet my pants) and just plain miserable. I didn’t do half of what I had hoped to do (though I did finish reading a book – review & giveaway coming soon).

That, and a terrible craving for Cheetos puffs on Sunday afternoon. I think I ate 2 servings with my shake for lunch – that’s about 600 calories!!!!!!!!!! I know I didn’t do nearly enough activity to counteract those calories, even though my daughter and I did walk around the beach, and we all walked miles back and forth the camp site packing up camp.

I could have gone WAY off the wagon with smores and chocolate bars and chocolate covered almonds! But I tried to be careful, for the most part. Everything in moderation….

So, what’s the verdict on the scale? 0 lbs +/- – UNCHANGED

WOOT! It IS possible to NOT gain weight over a weekend of camping!!!!!!! I’m thrilled!

Total weight change over 9 weeks: -9.7 lbs

OK, I’m not totally pleased with myself, because I know I could have been more disciplined. I really went overboard on the Friday dinner and the Cheetos on Sunday. But I am really glad I didn’t LOSE any ground over the weekend. That would have really ticked me off! LOL!

Emily from Mission4Nutrition was talking about this with a group of us on Facebook and we admitted that camping can be tough. But with their encouragement, I was able to plan ahead so that I had protein bars for snacks and wasn’t always faced with bad choices of chips and burgers and hot dogs and various other yummy camping food! We could have planned a WHOLE healthy camp diet, in theory, but for a weekend camping trip I just wasn’t up for it. When we camp for 2 weeks, I plan every meal, and that could be more healthy. I’ll be prepared next time we go on a mega camping trip!
